MT. PLEASANT (WCSC) - Students at one Mt. Pleasant middle school are receiving a little extra guidance this semester thanks to some friends at Joint Base Charleston.

Jerry Zucker Middle School's mentor program brings volunteers from the Joint Base Charleston into the classroom once a week to provide students with positive role models.

Each mentor visits his or her student once a week during their non-academic class to offer support and encouragement.

James Brooks, the program's coordinator and 7th grade guidance counselor, says he hopes to see the program grow so that every student can benefit.

"My goal is to pair each and every one of our students with one of these wonderful mentors," said Brooks.

Parents of Zucker Middle School students who have any questions regarding the mentor program can call Brooks at 843-207-3078.
