Charleston Co. State of the School's Address set for May 1

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County School District Superintendent Nancy McGinley will go over public school accomplishments and future goals at the 2013 State of the School's Address on May 1.

The address will be held in the TD Arena Hospitality Suite on Wednesday, May 1 at 11: 45 a.m. McGinley will be joined by local elected officials and community and business partners.

Superintendent McGinley is expected to reveal what CCSD plans to accomplish over the next year and over the next five years. 

She will also touch on the progress Charleston County public schools have made in certain areas, as well as areas of growth.

BCSD elementary students to attend Young Writers' Conference

 

BERKELEY COUNTY (WCSC) - Elementary students from across Berkeley County will be at Westview Elementary School this weekend to brush up on their writing schools.

The 2013 Spring Young Writers' Conference will take place Saturday, March 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each Berkeley County School District elementary school will send two students from each grade to participate in the conference.

The Young Writers' Conference is connected to the district’s focus on literacy.

Students will share the work they completed at the conference and be recognized at the event during a closing ceremony.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence will hold multiple speaking events in Charleston to educate the public on becoming a certified teacher.

Meetings will be held throughout Charleston during the month of February, and each will feature a representative with the American Board. 

In addition to learning about how to become a teacher, participants will also be able to explore exam preparation materials and enroll in the American Board program.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County students will take part in a district-wide spelling bee Thursday night.

The Charleston County School District spelling be will be held tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the first floor boardroom of the CCSD District Office located at 75 Calhoun Street.

The annual spelling bee will narrow the field down to 18 students who will advance to the Lowcountry's SpellBound.

Charleston Co. School District to honor teachers at Winter Gala

 

Charleston County School District will celebrate its top teachers with a special gala on February 22.

“An Evening with the Stars Winter Gala: International Indulgence” will honor all school-based Teachers of the Year by presenting them with a personalized international flag for their work. Students, families and community members are invited to attend the Feb. 22 event to show their appreciation.

Flags will be made available to the public for purchase for $5. Those who purchase flags can include a special message to show their appreciation (50-word limit), and select which educator will receive the flag.
