Wonder Works to open store in Freshfields Village

Christine Osborne, owner of Wonder Works in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley and downtown Charleston, recently announced her company is expanding yet again to open its fourth Charleston-area toy store.

The new Wonder Works location will open in the Freshfields Village shopping center, located at 574 Freshfields Drive in Johns Island between late April and early May of 2012.

Holiday prompts changes to garbage, yard waste pick-up schedule

CHARLESTON COUNTY (WCSC) - The garbage and yard waste collection in Charleston County will change a bit this week because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday routes will be collected on Wednesday, Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday, and Thursday routes will be collected on Friday.

As for yard waste, the same one-day delay rules apply, except for residents whose yard waste is regularly collected on Thursday. In their case, yard waste won't be collected until the following Thursday.

Holiday Festival at Freshfields Village

KIAWAH (WCSC) - The Village Green of Freshfields Village will be adorned with festive lights and holiday decor for an all-weekend holiday party, starting this Friday. Kids can enjoy a variety of activities from a children's train and face painting to music to visits with Santa. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Garbage schedule changes for Thanksgiving

CHARLESTON (WCSC) - As usual, there will be a slight change to your garbage collection schedule on the week of Thanksgiving this year.

Thanksgiving Day will be observed as a city holiday. As a result, Thursday routes will be collected on Friday. No other routes will be changed.

Goodwill opens new store on Johns Island

Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina is expanding its mission services to Johns Island with a new retail store opening Thursday, November 3. The Grand Opening will kick-off with a ribbon cutting attended by Charleston County Council members Vic Rawls and Anna Johnson.

The new Johns Island Goodwill Retail Store is located at 1758 Main Road. “By expanding the number of our stores we are expanding the opportunity for people to donate, and therefore expanding our ability to further achieve our mission of providing jobs, job training and placement for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment,” said Robert Smith, CEO and President for Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina.

Sweet Angel's raising funds for charities

The website SweetAngelGifts.com is holding a weeklong charity event by donating 100% of its proceeds to multiple charities from Oct. 10 through Oct. 16.

Customers will receive a 10% discount on items purchased on the site and be able to choose what charity they want the proceeds to be donated to.
